Title 1 Family Involvement Policies
- A Family Involvement Policy is developed, reviewed, and improved with staff and family input.
- An annual meeting is held to inform parents about the Title 1 program and to explain their right to be involved in their child’s education.
- Families are provided a description and explanation of the curriculum, the forms of academic assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
Communication
- The Family Involvement Policy and Family School Compact are distributed to families.
- Family members are given opportunities to make changes.
- Consultation is provided in areas related to academic achievement, performance standards, school policies, and related classroom matters.
- Families are provided timely information about the Title 1 program as well as how the students in the school performed and how their children performed using data.
- Communication with families is encouraged and suggestions are acted upon in a timely manner.
- Communication is sent in a variety of ways including phone calls, letters, emails, virtual meetings, ClassTag or Remind app, social media, Schoology, and the Tom Joy Magnet website.
Family Involvement
- Family members are encouraged to take an active part in the education of their child.
- Families are provided support and available information regarding parenting classes, resource centers, and other community programs.
- Conferences are held at different times during the day. Families are also provided opportunities for regular meetings with other family members to discuss experiences, offer suggestions, and participate in decisions relating to the education of their child.
- Families are involved in the joint development and review of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
- Families are also involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the programs supplemented by Title 1 funds.
Community Involvement
Title 1 funds will provide necessary materials and training to help families work with their children to improve their achievement such as literacy training and using technology.
The school will partner with community-based organizations, businesses, and PENCIL partners to improve student achievement and foster family involvement.
